The Cyprus Productivity Centre (eGnosis), under the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, has launched the Digital Skills Promotion Project to boost digital literacy among adults across Cyprus. Funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, the initiative runs until December 2025 and delivers free digital training nationwide.
The initiative include:
A 30-hour Digital Skills for 55+ programme: covering mobile devices, office software, online safety, e‑Government, digital healthcare, and financial tools. By June 2025, over 3,762 participants aged 55+ had enrolled.
An 18-hour Digital Skills for All: open to all ages, incorporating training on AI tools, e‑commerce setup, Excel-based statistical analysis, and e‑Government services.
Digital Skills with ICDL Certification: These 24-hour courses prepare participants for the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) exams, offered free of charge. The curriculum includes both basic and advanced office applications, Python programming, online marketing, and online collaboration tools.
Programmes in Remote and Mountainous Areas: Designed to ensure equitable access to education, these 30-hour courses target residents in non-urban areas, offering training in core digital skills and navigation of online public services.
The broader aim is to enhance digital inclusion, support a transition to a digitally empowered economy, and enable safe and confident use of technology in daily life and work.
Supporting Role of HRDA
The Human Resource Development Authority (HRDA) of Cyprus is a semi‑governmental agency tasked with the systematic development of the country's workforce. HRDA subsidises a wide range of adult VET (vocational education and training) activities, often covering around 80 % of eligible costs, including trainer fees, materials, and allowances for trainees.
HRDA funds and supports numerous training seminars, projects, and programmes—accessible through platforms such as the Hermes system and ILAs (Individual Learning Accounts)—which complement the digital upskilling offered by eGnosis.
