Cyprus has approved a € 6 million state aid scheme to support the operation of the Cyprus AI Factory Antenna Pharos-CY, a national artificial intelligence initiative aimed primarily at helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adopt AI technologies.

The initiative will provide businesses with free advisory services, technical support, training and access to advanced AI expertise and computing resources. It forms part of Cyprus broader strategy to strengthen the country's digital innovation ecosystem and accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence across both the public and private sectors.

Coordinated by The Cyprus Institute, Pharos-CY was selected for funding under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking's AI Factory Antennas programme. The project focuses on advancing AI applications in three strategic areas, health, sustainability, and culture and language, with a particular emphasis on developing large language models and AI tools for the Greek language and Cypriot dialect. The initiative is co-funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and the Government of Cyprus.

As Cyprus national AI Factory Antenna, Pharos-CY will connect researchers, startups, businesses and public organisations to Europe's high-performance computing infrastructure, helping them develop, test and deploy AI solutions. The project aims to strengthen the country's AI capabilities, foster innovation and support the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence in line with European standards.
